We all know the story of the Nightmare. We all know that this phenomenon plagued the planet just as it was recovering with the Eurasia Crisis. We know that Sigma returned to power from his defeat at the hands of X and Zero. And we know that they fought bravely to defeat the so-called "Nightmare Investigators", who were the scientist and mastermind of the plot Gate's personal fighting unit.

 

These Mavericks, as they were labeled, each had a unique and colorful history. When X and Zero came to their door, however, all that ended. The remains of the Mavericks were never found, and now that two years have passed, it seems as if the world has forgotten about them. There's also some things the world never knew about.

Hidden away underground was a lab that Sigma's followers built, and in that lab they started on a new project of creating clones of his most powerful followers and making them more powerful than they were before. The first attempts had all failed, but one in particular seems to have worked, and High Max is unleashed on the land once more.

Now eight beings from different dimensions have entered the bodies of the former Nightmare Investigators to fight this new menace. This is their story...

 

Shift: *drops out of a dimensional portal and lands on the ground* Argh... where am I? Damn those Dark Angels, forcing me through this dimensional portal...

*he gasps for air*

Shift: I can't survive in this dimension for long...those Dark Angels put me in a severely weakened state...

*He sees the deactivated body of Blaze Heatnix nearby*

Shift: Perhaps by taking on a new body...I've never done it before, but it's worth a shot.

*As he reaches out towards the body and summons up the last vestiges of his powers, the jewel on Heatnix's head glows, and Shift's body is sucked in*

Shift: WOOT! It worked! Now let me see...being in this body means that this is the world of MegaMan X, somewhere where I may not be welcome in a form like this. I need allies, but who? *Gets an idea* Of course! I'll find the other Nightmare Investigators and ally myself with them!

*he spreads his wings and flies out of the volcano*

*Meanwhile, in the desert...a wolf Reploid named Blizzard Wolfang (Draconis) is wandering around with a shark Reploid named Metal Shark Player (Yami CJMErl, or just Yami for short)*

Draconis: This is the last time I take directions from you!

Yami: Well, how was *I* supposed to know that the map was upside down?!

Draconis: *slaps forehead* I should've known you'd do something that stupid...

Yami: *looks up* Hey, check it out, Draconis, a meteor!

Draconis: You Idiot, that's no meteor. That's... *examines the incoming meteor more closely* ...a phoenix?

Shift: Hey there. I'm...uhhh...kind of new to this world. Want to team up with me?

Yami: If I say yes, do I get to blow things up?

Shift: Yes.

Yami: I'm in.

Shift: *turns to Wolfang* How about you?

Draconis: CJ told me to keep an eye on Yami and make sure he doesn't do anything TOO stupid...so yeah, I'm in too.

Shift: Then, lets go!

Draconis: Uhhhhhh...go where?

Shift: To find the rest of the Nightmare Investigators, of course! *flies away with Draconis following behind*

Yami: Hey! Wait up! *runs after them*

*after a bit of searching, the group find the giant tortise Reploid, Rainy Turtloid (Brick), near an oasis*

Brick: *confused* Huh? The Nightmare Investigators? I thought you were all dead.

Shift: Not exactly...but let's not go into detail about that right now.

Brick: Why?

Shift: 'CAUSE IT WOULD TAKE TOO LONG TO EXPLAIN!

Brick: Oh.

Shift: So anyways, want to join our little group?

Brick: Well, I have nothing better to do so...sure.

* They wander through the desert trying to find a city and end up finding Ground Scaravich (Haukura) in a cave*

Brick: Hey look, it's Scaravich!

Haukura: The name's Haukura!

Shift: Hey, are you from another dimension too, Haukura? My name's Shift and in the dimension I come from I knew someone named Haukura.

Haukura: I am. I thought I had died in that world...but the next thing I know, I'm here in this odd new body.

Shift: So do you want to join our group?

Haukura: Sure. Let's go.

*Later, they encounter Infinity Mijinion (Skull) and convince him to join the team (we don't want to go into detail, because it would take too long.)*

*A car driven by Shield Sheldon (Jason, a.k.a Mr. Fortune Cookie) drives by*

Shift: A car! Let's chase it and try to hitch a ride.

All: Sounds good!

*They chase the car through the desert*

Shift: Hey driver, let us in!

Jason: And why should I let you in?

Shift: Would you rather have your car set on fire?

Jason: Good point. *Stops the car and opens the doors, letting everyone except Rainy Turtloid--he's too big, so he gets towed behind instead*

Shift: *notices something glowing by the side of the road* Hey, what's this? *picks up a small, diamond-shaped gem*

Shift: *Glances at the driver of the car* Hey, you're Shield Sheldon, aren't you!

Jason: Yes I am, but you can call me Jason as well.

Shift: *looks around the interior of the car and sees a built in computer* Cool, there's a built in computer in the car! *goes to a forum named "MegaMan Community" and posts a thread titled "COMMANDER YAMMARK NEEDED"*

Shift: This should work... *A member with the username Stardust (Jeremy) replies, and the strange gem flashes, flies out of the car, and transforms into Commander Yammark*

Jeremy: Holy crap! The MMX6 team is real?!

Shift: Welcome to the team, Jeremy--or should I say, Commander Yammark.

Jeremy: Sweet!

Jason: We're almost at the nearest city.

*They arrive at a city, only to find it in flaming ruins; the bodies of Reploids and humans are littered everywhere, and at the center of the chaos is none other than High Max*

High Max: *sees the team get out of the car* Well, isn't THIS a surprise. Nice to see you again, "Nightmare Investigators". Now, join me in my quest to avenge Master Sigma, so we can finally be rid of these foolish humans and their pet Maverick Hunters once and for all!

Haukura: We will never join the likes of you! Right guys?

All except Haukura and Jason: Yeah!

Jason: *turns to Shift* Will there be pizza when the humans are exterminated?

Shift: No.

Jason: *turns back to High Max* Then I will never join you!

High Max: Then...you will die! *Turns his arms into giant cannons and fires two powerful blasts at the group, managing to hit Shift, Haukura and Draconis*

Shift, Haukura, and Draconis: Argh!

*The team unleash various attacks on High Max*

High Max: ARGH! So...it seems I have underestimated you.

*After a long and tough fight High Max turns out to be the winner and is about to destroy the team*

High Max: Hmph. Pathetic pieces of trash, and to think you used serve Master Sigma and Lord Gate. You don't even deserve to be called "Nightmare Investigators"!

*Shift gets up*

Shift: *staggers to his feet, the gem on his and the others' heads glowing* No. We are no longer these so-called Nightmare Investigators. We are...THE REPLOID REBELLION! *Attempts to attack High Max with a Magma Blade but High Max easily dodges it, only to be frozen by multiple Ice Bursts shot by Draconis. Then Haukura rolls a boulder over High Max, and the rest of the team all use their weapons on High Max, dealing a devastating blow to High Max's systems*

High Max: *lies motionless on the ground*

Shift: That was a hard fight. Now, to go ho...oh, crap. I just realized--we don't have a base!

Draconis: We could search for a place to stay in Doppler Town. Even though the town's in ruins, we could probably fix up a place to stay in there. Plus, we wouldn't need to pay taxes.

All except Draconis: Ok, Let's go to Doppler Town!

*the team teleports to Doppler Town in search of a base. Meanwhile, back at the scene of the previous battle...*

High Max: *gets up slowly* Hehehe...FOOLS! They haven't seen the last of me!
*he teleports away*
